Gateway to the Aegean: How to Get to Antiparos
Antiparos, the serene counterpart to the bustling island of Paros, is a destination sought out for its quiet charm and crystal-clear waters. While the island does not have its own airport or a major port for direct connections from the mainland, reaching this Cycladic gem is simple and seamless, primarily achieved through its closest neighbour, Paros.
Here is your guide on how to complete your journey to Antiparos by air and sea.
By Air: Flying to the Nearest Island
Since Antiparos lacks its own airport, all air travel must be routed through the adjacent island of Paros.
Step 1: Fly to Paros National Airport (PAS)
-
From Athens: The most common flight route is from Athens International Airport (ATH) to Paros National Airport (PAS). The flight duration is a swift 40 to 45 minutes, making it the quickest way to cover the distance from the Greek mainland. Flights are operated by domestic carriers like Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines (via their subsidiary, Sky Express).
-
From Other Destinations: During the peak summer season, Paros may also have direct or connecting flights from Thessaloniki, Heraklion (Crete), and occasionally from other Greek islands.
Step 2: Transfer from Paros Airport to the Ferry Port
Upon arriving at Paros Airport (PAS), you will need a short transfer to catch the local ferry to Antiparos.
-
To Pounta Port (Recommended): This is the fastest and most frequent connection. You can take a taxi or a local bus (KTEL) from the airport directly to Pounta Port. The journey takes about 10 to 20 minutes.
By Sea: The Two-Part Ferry Journey
The main leg of your sea journey is from the Greek mainland to Paros, followed by the short local crossing to Antiparos.
Step 1: Ferry from the Mainland (Athens) to Paros
For travelers prioritizing scenery, budget, or bringing their own vehicle, the ferry is the classic choice.
-
Booking Tip: For any ferry originating from the mainland, especially in July and August, it is highly recommended to book tickets in advance, particularly if you plan to transport a vehicle.
Step 2: The Short Hop from Paros to Antiparos
Once you arrive at Paros, the final leg of your journey is a local crossing. You have two options:
-
Ticket Purchase: Tickets for the short Paros-Antiparos crossing are typically purchased on board or at the small port kiosks—advance online booking is usually not available for this local route.
The Final Stretch: Arriving on Antiparos
No matter how you arrive on Paros, the Pounta Port car ferry is generally the easiest and fastest way to reach Antiparos. Once you step off the ferry at Antiparos Port (Chora), you are instantly in the heart of the island's main village, within walking distance of accommodations, restaurants, and rental shops.
